Choosing the right image format
Compression keeps the current format. If a different format suits the image better, use the image converter before comparing results.
| Format | Useful for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| JPG / JPEG | Photographs and broad compatibility | Uses lossy compression and does not support transparency. |
| PNG | Transparency, graphics, and screenshots | Photo-heavy PNG files can remain larger than modern alternatives. |
| WebP | Efficient modern web images | Check compatibility with older editing software. |
| AVIF | High-efficiency modern compression | Encoding can take longer and older tools may not support it. |
| GIF | Simple graphics and animation workflows | Detailed or long animations can remain large. |
| TIFF | Print, scan, archive, and TIFF-based workflows | TIFF files are often large and are not ideal for web delivery. |
Compression quality and dimensions
Reducing file size changes how efficiently the image data is stored. Resizing removes pixels by changing width or height.
Balanced uses a quick search for smaller files. Smallest file tries more encodings and may reduce quality further. Lossless preserves pixels and dimensions; JPEG and GIF stay unchanged.
Compare the result at its intended display size. An image that is already optimized may not become smaller.
Batch compression and privacy
Upload up to 20 images, with a maximum file size of 28 MiB each. Review each result, download files individually, or collect completed outputs in a ZIP.
Files that require server processing use private temporary storage for downloads. Signed links expire after 24 hours, and storage lifecycle cleanup follows. Files are not publicly listed.
Read the Privacy Policy for the complete retention and processing details.

Image compression FAQ
Answers about reducing file sizes, image quality, and downloads.
Does image compression reduce quality?
It can. Lossy compression trades some image detail for a smaller file, while lossless methods preserve decoded data. Always inspect the processed image at the size where you will use it.
Which image format compresses best?
There is no universal winner. JPG suits many photographs, PNG suits sharp graphics and transparency, while WebP and AVIF are efficient modern options. Compare representative files in your real workflow.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. The website compressor accepts up to 20 images, with a maximum of 28 MiB per file.
Is it free?
A free website workflow is provided. Paid plans are available for higher monthly conversion volume and API access; current details are on the Pricing page.
Are uploaded images stored permanently?
No. Files sent for server processing use private temporary storage. Download links expire after 24 hours, and storage lifecycle cleanup follows.
Can I compress PNG without converting it to JPG?
Yes. Select the PNG compressor to create an optimized PNG output. Inspect transparency, gradients, and exact colors if those details matter.
